Remaining Costume Contest Prizes!

In case you missed it earlier, the WordCamp Philly After Party will feature a costume contest! The remaining costume contest prizes have been confirmed, and here’s the complete breakdown:

  • 1st Place Prize: Apple TV
  • 2nd Place Prize: iHome iP11 iPhone Alarm Clock (for the iPod and iPhone)
  • 3rd Place Prize: $25 iTunes gift card

The Apple theme is totally a coincidence, by the way. The winners will be determined by our organizers, and they are very hardcore when it comes to costume contests. It’s time for the Philly WordPress Community to really show its stuff!

After Party Drink Specials & Costume Contest

We promised earlier that these would be announced shortly! If you are registered for WordCamp Philly and attend the event, you can arrive to the after party any time between 8:00p and 10:00p to receive one (1) drink ticket and present your name badge (which you’ll receive when you check in on Saturday morning). This ticket can be redeemed for a variety of drinks, and we’ll have a list ready for you at the party.

We’re also pleased to announce that, at the after party, there will be a costume contest (nothing sexually inappropriate, racist, or offensive, please).  There will be 3 winners and prizes (only WCP attendees can participate). First place will win an Apple TV, and the second and third place prizes are yet to be announced. Further details will be announced on the day of the event, so stay tuned!

    VaultPress Golden Ticket Raffle

We recently announced the VaultPress sponsorship of WordCamp Philly, and we now have even more awesome news. VaultPress is giving WordCamp Philly 5 golden tickets for the VaultPress beta. These will be raffled off during the event, and the winners will be announced during the closing remarks.

Because VaultPress is only compatible with self-hosted WordPress.org blogs and sites, all attendees will not automatically be entered in the raffle. You’ll need to manually enter during the lunch break (it’s free, of course), where you’ll be given a raffle ticket in exchange for your name and e-mail address. If you think VaultPress may be for you (or you’re not sure), please check out its Frequently Asked Questions here.

We’ll also be making this announcement during the opening remarks to make sure nobody misses the opportunity.

Another huge thanks to the VaultPress team for their support!

    WordCamp Philly After Party

We’re pleased to announce that the Official WordCamp Philly After Party will be going down on Temple University’s campus at The Draught Horse. The venue is located on 1431 Cecil B. Moore Avenue, just a few blocks from Alter Hall and right next to the subway and very close to the Liacouras Parking Garage (where we recommend our driving WordCampers to park).

The party will begin around 8:00p; this will give all attendees enough time after WordCamp Philly, which will end around 6:30p, to grab some dinner and make their way to the party. The Draught Horse has some good grub, too, so head on over for dinner if you’d like! We are currently working on some sexy drink specials, and those will be announced shortly.

    We hope you’ll join us!

    The Venue at a Glance

If you’re local to the Philadelphia area, we’re sure you’ve heard of Temple University (or at least we hope so), but you may be a little less familiar with Alter Hall, the new and gorgeous home of the Fox School of Business and Management on the main campus in North Philadelphia. Opened in 2009, the building pretty much defines “state of the art” in every way possible, and we’re incredibly thrilled and privileged to have WordCamp Philly there! The fact that many organizations at Temple are using WordPress in really awesome ways is an added bonus.

So, before you venture to Temple’s campus this coming Saturday for the first Philadelphia WordCamp, feel free to check out the building that you’ll call home for the day. We recommend the slideshow and virtual tour for starters. As a fun fact, the building boasts the nation’s longest elliptical stock ticker, according to the Temple News (who uses WordPress!).

We’re confident that you’ll enjoy Alter Hall as WordCamp Philly’s venue, and we’d like to continually thank the Fox MIS Department and the Institute for Business and Information Technology for making our presence there possible.

    Newest Sponsor: Wrox Press

If you’re a programmer, we’re sure you’ve heard of, seen, or read the expansive Wrox Press library – books by programmers and for programmers. Brad Williams, a WordCamp Philly speaker and co-organizer, is the proud author of one of Wrox’s titles – Professional WordPress, several of which will be given away at the event!

But the big news –  Wrox has joined WordCamp Philly as Gold Sponsor, and we are extremely grateful for their support. In addition to the sponsorship, Wrox was kind enough to provide us with several books to give away as prizes, as well as bags for all WordCamp Philly attendees (what you’ll get when you check in). A huge thanks to Wrox!
